Recreational Opportunities Abound

Imagine living almost right next door to one of Southern California’s most beautiful state parks! For residents of the San Jacinto Valley, visits to Mt. San Jacinto State Park can be a frequent occurrence, either by car or via the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. The park is a scenic spot for day hiking, bicycling and horseback riding, as well as overnight camping. Permits are required. San Jacinto’s beautiful 36-acre Regional Park, part of the Valley-Wide Recreation & Park District, offers a 22,000-square-foot sports center and numerous outdoor recreation facilities. The outdoor facilities include seven baseball diamonds (some lighted), six soccer fields, batting cages, basketball and volleyball courts, lighted tennis courts, horseshoe pits, and picnic areas with barbecues and a tot lot.

DIAMOND VALLEY LAKE

Located less than ten minutes from Park Avenue is Diamond Valley Lake. Diamond Valley Lake, often referred to as the jewel of California Lakes is Southern California’s largest freshwater reservoir with 4,500 surface acres. Diamond Valley Lake holds 260 billion gallons of water and took nearly two and a half years to fill. In addition to providing water to eighteen million Southern Californian’s, Diamond Valley Lake can meet the area’s emergency and drought needs for six months. This beautiful reservoir is the site of a planned recreation Mecca that will draw thousands of people to the area for boating, sailing, shore and boat fishing, water fowl hunting, camping and host of proposed recreation amenities. The Diamond Valley Aquatic Center is now open and offers entertainment for the entire family including pool houses, a water gym and waterslide. Diamond Valley Lake is embarking on a substantial trail system that will allow visitors to hike and ride through the hills surrounding the reservoir. The six mile North Hills Trail is open for horseback riding and hiking and the Lakeview Trail is now open for hiking and biking. Boating is allowed on the lake; and fishing boats, bass boats and pontoon’s are available for rental. Diamond Valley Lake is the state’s newest fishing lake featuring extensive fish habitats, regular trout and catfish plants, and some of the most unique and challenging largemouth bass fishing in the West. Coastline and boat fishing are featured at Diamond Valley Lake with some exciting tournaments being held. Imagine, being able to enjoy one of Southern California's recreational Mecca's in your own backyard.
